The second half saw both sides play well until halftime. Atletico Madrid had a chance to win the game in injury time, but their efforts were cut short when Jordi Alba headed wide of the target from a corner kick.

In the final minutes of regulation time, Lionel Messi was brought down by Javier Mascherano, giving Barcelona the lead. Messi curled a free-kick into the top left corner of the net, sending Atlético goalkeeper Diego Maradona reeling backwards in disbelief.

It was a dramatic finish, but Barcelona held on for victory. The victory puts Barcelona firmly on top of the league standings, while Atlético remains without a point. It will be interesting to see how the team performs against Real Madrid later this week.
